Daina Deblette | Ocean Art Studio & Gallery

I live, work and play by the ocean, filling my time with painting and teaching art. My oil paintings tell stories of places I've travelled to and fallen in love with, places I long to return to, and moments in time that seemed to stand still long enough for me to soak them up.

I also enjoy working with encaustic (molten beeswax, pigment and resin), acrylics, collage and mixed media, watercolours and creative journaling- as these different mediums each have their own storytelling style and are lots of fun to experiment with. I'm always challenging myself to keep learning and fool around with new ideas.

At Ocean Art Studio & Gallery in Ganges on Salt Spring Island, I teach art to youth and adults, encouraging them to set aside their fears and insecurities, to relax, have fun and not take themselves too seriously. Sometimes it just takes getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new to help free up creative blockages. One of the most enjoyable moments teaching is when a student begins to "see" differently for the first time. That's a great discovery to be a part of, and one that continues to grow beyond the studio into everyday life.

I’ve been teaching art since 2006, throughout North and Central America.
