Comstock, Ferre & Co.

Comstock, Ferre has been a fixture of Old Wethersfield, Connecticut since the 1800's. Last year the company was bought by Jerre and Emilee Gettle of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. Comstock, Ferre is one of America's oldest running seed companies, and Jerre and Emilee are working to revive it and bring it back to its beginnings as an heirloom seed company. We are committed to bringing the heirloom/organic gardening practices of our past into the present and future.

As a celebration of our 200th Anniversary we are hosting a huge event on June 5, 2011.  This event will showcase the past and future of Comstock, Ferre, and celebrate the culinary and agricultural heritage of New England. We will have local vendors, acclaimed garden speakers, such as Margaret Roach and William Weaver,  and informative workshops/lectures.

At the front of the property, we are going to travel back in time to the 1800's and reenact some of what life was like back then - the clothing, music, food, gardening and general way of life.  As we move through the property, we will travel to the present and the future and showcase today's vibrant agricultural and gardening communities, with a special focus on local farmer's and chefs as well as some community initiatives changing the way urban areas think about vegetable gardening.
