Who are we?
Code for San Antonio is what happens when civic-minded developers, designers, coders, organizers, photographers, publicists, and social-site communicators come together to build a better San Antonio for everyone. We apply our skills as technologists to problem solve alongside members of our communities and local government. We use technology as an act of citizenship to make San Antonio the city we want it to be.
When do we meet?
We meet weekly on Mondays to work on a variety of projects, working towards a better, more connected and open city: SATX 2.0.
Why should you join?
As a Code for San Antonio Brigade Member, you’ll work first-hand on exciting projects that are making a positive impact on the City of San Antonio.
You will collaborate with and learn from some of SATX’s leading technologist's as well as build your own portfolio to show to family, friends, and future employers!
Do I need to be a coder?
No! We welcome anyone that is willing to learn or has an interest in helping out the community through tech-enhanced projects.
Do I need to have a lot of experience before helping a project?
Nope, just be willing to learn and contribute towards your project.
Do I need to bring my own laptop?
If you have one - ABSOLUTELY!
This is a PLAN - DO - CREATE workshop. We form teams and start working on projects THE SAME NIGHT!
We are firm believers in "learning by doing" as this is all-around benefit to everyone.
Your contribution will be "real-time." You will either be coding or spreading the word via social media so both will require a computer. At this time, we do not have access to loaning computers.
No laptop & want to contribute via idea creation, planning, or photography (bring your camera), come join us as we welcome and encourage everyone at any skill level to participate in making our community, "A City on the Rise."
What are my parking options getting to the event?
Metered street parking after 6PM is FREE
How does this work?
Plan, Do, Create!
We all have ideas for making our community better, right?
We bring those ideas to the drawing board as well as review ideas submitted to the city.
Project ideas: When we have new members or have completed a project, we will spend the first 15-30 minutes as a group, decide on which ideas we want to turn into new projects and ensure each new project idea has enough support to form a minimum of 2-3 team members.
Hack nights: Work with our teams in-person to bring our projects to fruition!
What if I'm new member and teams are already formed?
Easy! Find one of the event organizers and let them know! You will either join an existing project team or create a new one.
If you have already been working on a project at home that contributes to building a better San Antonio, you can add it to the list of existing projects and get other members to join your team.
We welcome and encourage anyone, at any skill level, to participate. We are firm believers in "getting your hands dirty" and learning by doing.
Is there a facebook page I can become a member of?
Yes! Our events and RSVPs are primarily hosted here and mirrored on our Facebook page for easy sharing.
SHARE the invite and on all of your social sites -- Become a part of a tech movement that creates positive change!
Where did Code for San Antonio stem from?
We’re part of Code for America, a non-partisan, non-political 501(c)3 organization founded in 2016 to bring web-industry professionals to work with city governments in the United States in order to promote openness, participation, and efficiency in municipal governments.
