Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford County, Inc.

The Child Advocacy Center provides crisis intervention services for child abuse victims, child sexual abuse victims, drug endangered children, and the “Darkness to Light” Program that trains adults how to protect children from child sexual abuse.

The Child Protective Investigative Teams have worked together to investigate child abuse cases in Rutherford and Cannon Counties. Department of Children’s Services has protected children, law enforcement has arrested perpetrators, the District Attorney’s Office has prosecuted and incarcerated offenders, while the Child Advocacy Center has helped children and families heal from the trauma.

In 2012, the Child Advocacy Center began implementing a new nationwide initiative called “Darkness to Light.” Through this program parents, grandparents, and professionals learn how to protect children from child sexual abuse.

When the Child Advocacy Centers were established in Rutherford County in 2000 and in Cannon County in 2007, the national statistic was that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.   The new national child abuse statistic is 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. We are excited to share with you that everything we are doing to stop child abuse is working in Rutherford and Cannon Counties and across the nation.

Children deserve the best, especially in their times of crisis. Thank you for sharing that belief and supporting the Child Advocacy Center services. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of children!
