Charlene Degen

Charlene Degen, MSc RD is a dietitian and professor of nutrition who graduated from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) with a Master’s degree in Global Health and Nutrition. Charlene completed her B.S. at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a dual emphasis major in Nutrition Science and in Dietetics, a minor in exercise physiology and an emphasis in Chemistry.
 Charlene worked for 6 years as a clinical dietitian and as clinical nutrition supervisor providing nutrition consulting to doctors, and has maintained a private nutrition practice consulting with individual clients since 2009. She has briefly worked twice in Guatemala as the medical team lead for a humanitarian expedition, and served as the medical team lead, writing all the health education materials for a team to Peru. Charlene has also trained medical students from the University of California, Irvine, working in a medical clinic in Mexico on how to conduct patient education and teach medical nutrition therapy in the field. She completed her dietetic residency at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Los Angeles and is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and has a certificate in adult weight management.
