César E. Chávez Leadership Institute

Arizona State University (ASU) administers a number of community engagement programs that honor the legacy of César E. Chávez. The ASU Chávez Programs seek to improve access to higher education for underrepresented students while enriching their lives through academic achievement and multicultural experiences.

As the core foundation of the ASU Chávez Programs, the César E. Chávez Leadership Institute (CCLI) provides leadership development skills, while advancing the goals of completing high school, attending college and highlighting educational opportunities at ASU and other institutions of higher learning. Since 1995, CCLI has fostered the development of 1,000 students from across the state of Arizona.

CCLI is a one-week in-residence summer leadership workshop at ASU. It provides 60 high school students with a one-of-a-kind experience that embraces diversity, reinforces the value of community service and encourages civic engagement. The program also fosters academic and personal success within a collaborative peer environment. CCLI seeks to challenge students by introducing critical thinking methods and how to utilize these skills inside and outside the classroom.
