"Providing help today and hope
for tomorrow”

What is the Cancer Patient Support Foundation (CPS)?
CPS is a free, comprehensive, support service program designed to assist cancer patients and their families. The creation of this program, now in its 14th year, was inspired by the desire of cancer survivors and other dedicated members of the community to be that essential helping hand for the patient and their family when facing a cancer diagnosis.

Who is eligible for CPSF services?
The services provided by CPS are available to all Vermont and upstate New York residents who have received a diagnosis of cancer. All services are also extended to the families of the cancer patients.

What services are offered through CPSF?
Facing a cancer diagnosis can be a time of fear and anxiety. Patients often have many questions and difficult decisions to make. CPS can help by offering a range of cost-free support services including psychological and nutritional counseling, and emergency funding for patients who find themselves in financial hardship due to their illness. Patients may self refer to CPS or maybe referred by healthcare professionals.

Psychological counseling includes assessment and screening; individual, family and couples counseling; support groups and crisis intervention provided by two licensed psychologists. Our support groups offer companionship and opportunities for sharing for patients dealing with many different types of cancer. Our trained staff can also help to connect patients to other medical professionals and resources.

Nutritional counseling includes one-on-one and support group counseling sessions lead by a registered dietician who can address the unique dietary concerns of cancer patients. Topics include weight management, how to use nutrients to assist the body with the healing process and information on how to combat common side effects such as lack of appetite and fatigue.

Emergency fund provides assistance to those patients who find themselves in financial crisis due to their illness. Sustained by grants, the generous donations of the community and fundraising efforts of the CPS volunteers, the Emergency Fund provides funding for medicines, gas cards, and assistance with utility bills, mortgage payments, food and childcare.
