Camilla Saly

Camilla Saly-Monzingo is a lifelong New Yorker who grew up on the Upper West Side in the gritty 1970’s. A proto-punk, she was a regular at Max’s Kansas City, Club ’82, and CBGB’s. In the late 70’s she worked in the music business for the Ramones, among many other rock’n’roll bands. She moved to Brooklyn in the early 80’s, where she co-owned and ran a small poetry and ‘zine bookstore. She then became a writing teacher, and spent 26 years working in New York City’s alternative schools for at-risk teens.

Camilla has written essays for anthologies, articles for websites, and columns for magazines about education, aging, New York City History and sex-positive activism. She is currently an editor with Riverdale Avenue Books. She lives in Harlem with one bad cat and one good cat, and her husband Mark.
