Dear BCMS Family:
It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you to the 2016-17 season. 15 years ago we started a dream at a kitchen table. Every season built something special until now, when we have a season long celebration of world culture. This season we celebrate our series with a Gold Medal winner from the 2013 Cliburn Competition and artists from Belgium, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Cuba, China and our very own United States. I am proud how varied our season roster is as well as how diverse our programming is.
Our programs include music by the brilliant Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, a man who single handedly put the Argentinian Tango on the world map. Alfred Schittke, whose musical language runs the emotional gamut from knee slapping humor to sobering humanity.
Franz Schubert whose songful melodies made him the popular songwriter of his time and his 20th century counterpart George Gershwin, who seamlessly merged jazz with the classical forms such as concertos, operas and tome poems. And who better to present the virtuosity of George Gershwin than the indefatigable Paul Posnak, audience favorite who last played for us at the 2013 Valentines Day concert; BCMS lovebirds have been pining for him ever since.
Speaking of boundless virtuosity, we have our annual piano recital with the brilliant Italian pianist Alessandro Deljavan. After capturing the hearts of Fort Worth at the last two Cliburn Competitions, he will steal your heart with a rare solo recital. Much sought after in Europe and the US, I am delighted that Alessandro is able to make time to share his brilliance at Blue.
The final concert of the season pairs our dear musical friends, Andres Cárdenes and Anton Nel. Both are brilliant soloists and dedicated pedagogues. It is this ability to be at home wearing many hats that makes their mutual music making such high level drama for the audience.
No celebration is complete without special events. Please check the website often or email us so we can reach you and apprise you of social and musical gems sprinkled throughout this year that will truly feel like a season long music fest! Season subscribers are already on this list, so if you think that you may be interested in purchasing a subscription for yourself or as a thoughtful and creative gift, see our home page. Keep in mind, tickets cover a little less than 30% of concert costs so the next 15 years need your support.
I love hearing your feedback. The more the merrier! One of the great privileges of being your artistic director is to sculpt seasons with the audience comments in mind. So keep those lines of communication open and active! I hope you enjoy our 15th anniversary season; looking forward to seeing you all on September 30, 2016.
