Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR)

Audubon Canyon Ranch is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit environmental conservation and education organization. It was founded in 1962 to safeguard Bolinas Lagoon from irresponsible development, leading the way for the protection of Tomales Bay.

Today, Audubon Canyon Ranch acts as guardian of four main nature preserves in Marin, Sonoma and Lake counties. These 5,000 acres of tidal flats, marshlands, coastal prairie, oak woodlands and redwood groves provide significant habitat to wildlife and have been placed in our care by generous donors to steward and protect in perpetuity.

ACR's programs and preserves are made possible thanks to the contribution of thousands of hours of volunteer service, and donations from caring individuals, foundations and businesses. Consider becoming a member of ACR today!

About Martin Griffin Preserve, Stinson Beach

ACR’s Martin Griffin Preserve encompasses 1,000 acres in West Marin, protected in perpetuity since 1962 as a wildlife sanctuary. Forests of Douglas fir, coast redwood and California bay blanket the slopes of the preserve overlooking Bolinas Lagoon. Open hillsides support grasslands and coastal scrub, while chaparral, streams, ponds and freshwater marsh habitats nestle in the canyon floors. The preserve is home to mammals (black-tail deer, bobcat, badger, gray fox and bush rabbit), landbirds (over ninety species), reptiles and amphibians.

The preserve’s frontage along Bolinas Lagoon brings more than 60 species of waterbirds and shorebirds into view—from sandpipers to Osprey to pelicans—as well as some of the resident harbor seals.
Along with ACR Conservation Talks and Nature Connection programs, the Martin Griffin Preserve has picnic areas for lunch, hiking opportunities, trained naturalists available to answer questions, and 1,000 acres of redwood forests, fresh water ecosystems, coastal scrub, and mixed evergreen forests.
