Atmananda’s mission is to provide individuals with the tools and skills that enable them to develop their full potential and inspire others to do the same. The most important element of the Atmananda Yoga Sequence is physical alignment. The appropriate placing of the feet and hands and engaging the right muscles play a crucial role in protecting the joints and gently guiding the body deeper into the poses.
“The reason why I created the sequence was because I was seeing yoga students all over the city getting hurt. Well the reason for this, I realized, was because various styles of yoga paid little attention to alignment nor creating a sustainable practice.
Seventy One classical and powerful postures make up the sequence and help you connect with your body. We use the Sun Salutations to warm up, various hip-openers to lubricate the joints and release tension, forward bends to calm the mind and fire the digestion, backbends to energize and open up the heart , arm balances to tone the body and inversions to reverse the impact of gravity. The movement initiates with the breath to bring awareness and connect to the vital energy of the body, Prana.
