Aikido of Arlington

Aikido (a Japanese martial art) emphasizes blending with and redirection of the attacker(s). Movements in aikido center on a fluid flexibility and an ability to maintain a stable and balanced center. The aim of the aikido practitioner is to be in complete control of mind and body, and to maintain a calm yet alert posture.

Aikido of Arlington, founded in 1989 by Sensei Donny Lyon (4th dan), practices in the Iwama tradition. Sensei Lyon studied under Morihiro Saito Sensei in Japan. After the passing of Sensei Lyon, his student, Yvonne Thelwell–being a sempai at the dojo–took over teaching duties. Sensei Thelwell (5th dan) has also been an uchi-deshi training under Morihiro Saito Sensei in Iwama, Japan.
