African Americans Against Alzheimer's
African Americans Against Alzheimer's is the nation's first organization dedicated to building a coordinated national response to address Alzheimer's disease among African Americans and lead a sustained effort to increase minority participation in Clinical Trials to find a cure.
Our Mission is to:
- Prevent, educate, test, treat and support individuals in comunities of color that have been or are most at risk of developing Alzheimer's.
- Promote brain health and healthy aging by promoting strategies that have been shown to reduce risk factors that may lead to cognitive decline including Alzheimer's.
- Advocate for and promote brain health equity across the lifespan and in all communities, especially communities of color that are at least twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's as non-hispanic white Americans.
- Provide tools and strategies for individuals and communities to address this challenge head on, including advocacy for more and better research, greater attention by physicians to brain health, and sharing information about how we can reduce our own risks for cognitive decline.
Through the award winning stage play Forget Me Not, we reach communities nationwide to build appreciation for and participation in clinical trials by African Americans.
