My passion for growing businesses has been over 30 years in the making.
For my first business, I started in automotive related company that eventually grew to over 1.4 million sales, winning numerous awards along the way. After 12 years, I decided to sell the business, but what I found was that it was virtually impossible to sell the business because what I had created was not a business-only a job. And who wants to buy a job? I was eventually able to sell the business through a combination of sales and liquidation strategies and came out just OK. But I really didn’t get what I should’ve gotten for my “sweat equity”.
What I learned was that just because I was good at my job did not necessarily make me good at creating great value for my business. From that day on, I have been on a quest to re-educate myself and other business owners so they can create “commercial, profitable, enterprises that work without them.” In other words, I am making sure that business owners do not end up like I did-just OK, or even worse, owing money. Over the last eight years, I have helped literally hundreds of business owners, attorneys, accountants, and other firms grow their businesses dramatically with an eye toward creating maximum value for the owners.
I am married to Lynn, my wife of 30 years and I have two sons, Mac (24) and Matthew (19). I have coached soccer, been involved in scouting (Both boys and I are Eagle Scouts), and have served as both a deacon and elder in the church. In my spare time, I enjoy fly-fishing, golf, and reading books on business, management, and theology.
