Established in 2003, the Virginia Tech School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) is an innovative integration of scholarship and professional instruction in policy and planning in public administration, urban affairs, environment, governance, and international relations. It is part of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech.

SPIA makes an outstanding contribution to the standing of Virginia Tech with research, teaching, and community engagement that is internationally recognized and locally effective.

The School is comprised of three member programs:

-Center for Public Administration and Policy (CPAP), with graduate degree programs in Blacksburg, Alexandria and Richmond;

-Urban Affairs and Planning (UAP), with undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Blacksburg and graduate degree programs in Alexandria;

-Government and International Affairs (GIA), with graduate degree programs in in Blacksburg and Alexandria.
