Organizing an event

Sales Tax Exemptions in Florida

When you set up your event, you’ll have to answer a couple brief questions in Tax Settings. Tax won’t be charged to you or the attendee if you’re a non-profit organization or otherwise tax exempt under one of the Florida exemptions listed below. For more information on state specific tax exemptions, please reference the Florida Department of Revenue website.

Events by Educational Institutions

Is your event sponsored by elementary schools, junior high schools, middle schools, high schools, community colleges, public or private colleges and universities, deaf and blind schools, facilities of the youth services programs of the Department of Children and Families and exempt under Fla. Stat. § 212.04(2)(a)(1)?

Events in Publicly-Owned Recreational Facilities

Is your event sponsored by a governmental entity, sports authority, or sports commission if held in a convention hall, exhibition hall, auditorium, stadium, theater, arena, civic center, performing arts center, or publicly owned recreational facility exempt under Fla. Stat. § 212.04(2)(a)(3)?

Events by Governmental Entities

Is your event an athletic or recreational program sponsored by a governmental entity exempt under Fla. Stat. § 212.04(2)(a)(6)?

Live Theater, Opera and Ballet

Is your event an admissions to a live theater, live opera, or live ballet production sponsored by a 501(c)(3) and exempt under Fla. Stat. § 212.04(2)(a)(7)?

Freshwater Fishing Tournaments

Is your event a freshwater fishing tournament exempt under Fla. Stat. § 212.04(2)(a)(8)?

Participatory Events that Charge for Spectating

Is your event a participatory game, race, or other sport or recreational event that charges admissions to spectators and exempt under Fla. Stat. § 212.04(2)(a)(9)?

Gun Clubs

Is your event an admissions to a gun club exempt under Fla. Stat. § 212.04(2)(a)(11)?

Agricultural Fairs

Is your event an agricultural fair exempt under Fla. Admin. Code Ann. 12A-1.005(2)(c)?
