Welcome to New Employee Orientation

New Employee Orientation (NEO) is an established policy of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) Administration. NEO is provided to ensure that all new employees have the information, resources, and support necessary to perform their job safely and successfully.


Orientation Requirements

  • All new employees (CCSF and UCSF) assigned to work at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center are required to attend New Employee Orientation (NEO)
  • Employees separated from the organization for more than 12 months due to any type of leave of absences and assignment completion.
  • It consists of General Orientation (Day 1) and Clinical Orientation (Day 2). Only after satisfaction of attendance requirement per job classification can the employee begin work in their designated department.

Orientation Location

NEO is held in the Department of Education and Training (DET), Building 30, 2nd Floor(click here for a location map) multiple times monthly unless otherwise noted (Here is 2018 Calendar & 2019 Calendar)

  • Registration opens at 7:45 AM
  • Sessions begins promptly at 8:00 AM.
  • Late arrivals may not be able to attend orientation and start work.

Topics Covered

Day 1: General Orientation

  • Leadership Introduction to True North & Stretegic Initiatives
  • Regulatory Topics: Infection Control, Patient Safety, Risk Management, Qualtity Management, Privacy, Emergency Response, Security, Safety, and Workplace Violence Prevention

Please note:

  • Day 1 is required for all Clinical and Non-Clinical employees (CCSF, UCSF, Registry Staff, Contractors, & Sheriffs Department).
  • MD’s, Active and Affiliated Medical Staff, Fellows, PA's, NP's, Midwives, and Social Workers are only required to attend the Day 1 of the orientation and ARE NOT REQUIRED to return for Clinical Orientation (Day 2).

Day 2: Clinical Orientation

  • Patient safety topics
  • Practice session for safety devices and restraints
  • Information and skills relevant to all nursing units.



FAQs

Am I required to attend New Employee Orientation?

All new City and County of San Francisco and UCSF employees working in any role at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) are required to attend the first day of New Employee Orientation (NEO): General Orientation. NEO is provided to ensure that all new employees have the information, resources, and support necessary to perform their job safely and successfully. State law and regulatory agencies require the topics covered in NEO.

Do I need to attend Clinical Orientation?

Selected clinical job classifications are required to attend Clinical Orientation (Day 2) as outlined on the table above. However, this DOES NOT include students, Active Medical Staff, and Fellows. Please check attendance requirement here.

What time are the orientations?

General and Clinical Orientation begin promptly at 8:00AM and end at 4:30PM. Registration for both days opens at 7:45AM.

Where are the orientations held?

General and Clinical Orientation are held in the Department of Education & Training (DET) on the ZSFG campus (1001 Potrero Ave., Building 30, 2nd Floor, Suite 3200).

I am student, will I need to complete in-person Orientation?

No. Students do not need to attend in-person Orientation, online Student Orientation will suffice the requirements. Please contact your supervisor for more information.

What happens if I arrive late?

It is important to arrive on time. Late arrivals may not be allowed to attend orientation and will delay start work date.

Will there be coffee at the orientation?

Coffee is served on both days of orientation.

Is lunch provided?

No. Lunch is not provided on orientation days.

Parking is available in the parking garage located 24th and Utah. See campus map.
