Zoominar on the Songs of Elie Wiesel
Event Information
About this event
Zamir is delighted to offer a variety of free “Zoominars” led by members of the musical staff and guests. Sessions are held once a month on Tuesday evenings. Links are in the confirmation email once you register.
In commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day, April 8), Zamir alumna Cantor Debbie Katchko-Gray examines songs inspired by Elie Wiesel, z"l. Wiesel was a Romanian-born American Jewish author, philosopher and humanist, and was considered the world's leading spokesman on the Holocaust. A recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, he authored 57 books, including several based on his experiences as a prisoner in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.
Cantor Katchko-Gray helped lead a sing-along for Wiesel's 70th birthday, which included melodies from the childhood of the man who fought for the memory of the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. Hearing and better understanding these songs will no doubt inspire our commemoration of the Shoah (Holocaust).
Future Zoominar: May 4, Josh Jacobson presents “The Jewish Side of Leonard Bernstein.” Registration details will be available in April.
While our Zoominars are free, we depend on your contributions to continue producing the high level of Jewish music you’ve come to expect, particularly now, during these revenue-challenging times. We hope you will consider donating to Zamir.
