Zoohackathon is a competition hosted by the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) in partnership with the U.S. Mission in Uganda to develop new and innovative technological tools to fight wildlife trafficking. Over the course of a weekend, university students, coders, scientists, and wildlife enthusiasts will collaborate to create software solutions for real wildlife conservation problems. Participants will learn the core skills needed to succeed in the competition, ranging from coding to team building. Expert mentors from the conservation and technology fields will coach participants throughout the event.

Global Prize: The global winner has the potential to receive support to develop and deploy their solution. The solutions of event team winners at the Uganda Zoohackathon will automatically be entered for the 2021 Global Prize. The winner of the 2021 Global Prize will be determined by a U.S.-based Review Committee based in Washington, D.C. The Review Committee will comprise members from the U.S. Government, non-governmental organizations, wildlife organizations, and technology companies. The winner of the 2021 Global Prize will be announced in January 2022.

Registration: Update 20/10/2021: Registration is currently closed. You may add yourself to the waitlist by clicking "Register" and then "Join Waitlist."

Logistics: Participants must travel to Entebbe. Accommodation for Friday and Saturday night and meals throughout the event will be provided to all participants.
