The Houston Health department is hosting its first Zika Birth Defects Symposium. This symposium will bring together several local and national experts in a city-wide forum to discuss and develop rapid active surveillance of microcephaly and central nervous system defects associated with Zika virus infection.
Our keynote speaker for this symposium will be Dr. Carl Vartian, the Chief Medical Information Officer of HCA Gulf Coast Division. Other key experts presenting on topic pertaining to Zika include; Dr. Kjersti Aagaard, Associate Professor for Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal and Fetal Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine; Dr. Larry Seigler, Manager of Clinical Laboratory Service, City of Houston; Dr. Mark Canfield- Branch Manager for the Birth Defects Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch at the Texas Department of State Health Services; Cassandra Pasley- Director of Children's Medical Services.
There will also be two break out panel sessions that explore the different avenues of case ascertainment, infant tracking, and referral to services.
