Event description


Sessions to be webcast include a Plenary Science Panel: Preparing and Responding to Zika Virus, addressing the current state of Zika science through a series of science briefs, to include: Protecting Pregnant and Reproductive-Age Women, Identifying and Diagnosing Cases, Preventing and Responding to Mosquito-borne Illnesses,and,a Call to Action: What can State and Local Leaders Do. Followed by a State and Local Panel: Controlling and Responding to Mosquito-borne Illnesses; a session addressing Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication. And, a final session, Using Policy to Increase Public Understanding and Enhance State and Community Readiness.

Goals of the Summit:

  • Provide state and local senior officials with information and tools needed to improve Zika preparedness and response within their states and jurisdictions.

  • Increase knowledge on the latest Zika science, including implications for pregnant women.

  • Increase knowledge of best communications practices, including crisis and risk communication principles.

  • Accelerate readiness for local Zika transmission through training and technical assistance to states to help establish and support surveillance and share best practices for vector control.

  • Identify possible gaps in preparedness and response at the federal, state, and local levels, and help to begin to address possible gaps.
