Event description

Description

Join Heidi Leugers of Reclaimed Wool in the art and practice of creative puzzle-solving with upcycling textiles. This hands-on, brains-on workshop at Textile Hive will focus on deconstructing and reusing all parts of a tailored shirt as we engage critical thinking in regards to production, consumption, creativity, and sustainability. Cuffs, collars, seams, and the fabric itself will be reassessed for the creation of something “new.” Participants will work collaboratively and independently to think through problems that emerge when input resources and means of production bring about thorny questions for long-term sustainability or meaningful sustainable impact. Both non-market, personal, creative expression, and the viability for income in a market economy will be considered, as well as the influence of fashion and aesthetics as we move the new “products” toward a zero waste goal. Heidi is the producer/owner/creative force behind Reclaimed Wool, a studio and business that produces thousands of items a year while practicing zero waste since 1998.
