San Diego Zero Emissions Cities (ZEC) Project: Final Workshop and Action Planning

"Organizing the San Diego Business Community for Climate Action"

The City of San Diego and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) have collaborated to show how the business community can provide critical leadership to meet San Diego’s ambitious Climate Action Plan. This is an opportunity to enhance San Diego’s global reputation as an innovator in sustainability and climate change action, to strengthen the region's businesses and the overall economy.

The collaboration has been led by AECOM, DNV-GL and ENGIE, working together with the WBCSD, with the support of Cleantech San Diego, the Industrial Environmental Association and the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. The group has organized a series of workshops to discuss strategic topics of interest to businesses.

Earlier workshops presented “The Return on Investment of Climate Action” (January 2017), and “The Importance of Measurement” (April 2017). This third and final workshop will include sessions on three action areas, with distinguished panellists, and plenty of time for audience questions and comments:

1. Discuss forming a new business-driven program to accelerate innovation and investment in low-carbon emissions buildings and infrastructure systems: what team skills are needed; the range of projects it could facilitate; how it would collaborate with existing local organizations; funding and next steps to gauge interest in participating and developing the program.

2. Review large scale project opportunities in San Diego to demonstrate integrated, low-emissions planning and development, including greater water and waste efficiency and distributed energy generation and storage; present examples from other cities; costs and performance; and discuss how developers, suppliers, and the City of San Diego might collaborate in the future.

3. Deepen business-to-business dialogues on the value of low-emission investments and the importance of data to monitor progress and improve business performance.

We hope that you will participate in this third and final workshop of the ZEC project at the Illumina Theatre, October 20. There is no cost to participate - please simply register above.

A detailed workshop agenda, and list of panellists, will be sent to registered participants during the first week of October. If you are unable to join, please extend this invitation to an appropriate colleague.
