Zentangle® Meets Watercolor - Moody Octopus
Event Information
About this Event
Paint with me one of the most clever and otherworldly creatures this Earth knows. No need to have previous experience. We will brush up on the basics and then I will guide you step-by-step in painting this moody illustration in any color wave you like. I will also demo how to optionally add some subtle Zentangle elements with watercolor.
I'm even providing the template so you can focus on the painting!
Just a few materials are required for this project. However, if you do not have all of these materials on hand, that's perfectly fine. Use what you have for this class, take notes, and pick up some different materials later. OR simply attend this workshop with a cup of coffee, tea, etc. in hand and give it a go later!
Fee - $30
Suggested Materials:
- The provided octopus template (which you’ll have access to after purchasing your ticket) lightly traced onto watercolor paper with graphite. I suggest 7x10 inch (at least) 140 lb - 100% cotton - Cold Press - watercolor paper. You can accomplish the tracing with the assistance of a light box or by centering and taping your template and watercolor paper against a window and let the sunlight help you out.
I suggest tracing two of these so that you have one to color swatch and practice with!
- Extra watercolor paper for practice!
- A Fineliner Pen ( Like an 01 Sakura Pigma Micron or similar) It needs to be waterproof! (this is optional)
- Graphite Pencil (A 2B or HB pencil will be fine)
- Med-Large Eraser
- A set of watercolors. Anything you can get your hands on. I will personally be using a mix of Kuretake's Gansai Tambi Japanese watercolors and some other pans I have lying about. You only need 2-3 colors and the addition of a metallic gold or silver! I've been loving using neutrals, like greys, browns, and olives... in conjunction with light teal for this project.
-Mixing Palette (could be anything nonporous and ideally white in color... like a plate! Or Wax paper!)
- Various sized round brushes between 4 and 10, one or two cups of clean water, and plenty of paper towels or a damp sponge to blot and clean your brushes. I'll mostly be using a size 6 and 10 round brush... with the addition of a size 4 for some finer details.
- A cheap toothbrush... or something we can create a small splatter effect with.
- Hair Dryer!
I look forward to meeting you in class!
