About this event

Zentangle Inspired Art: Circles as New Beginnings

Zentangle Inspired Art, also known as "ZIA," pairs patterns and whimsy in beautiful and fun images. Inspiration for this class will come from the art of Zentangle and the circle. As the song goes, circles have no beginning and no end! They also tend to appeal to humans because they are soft and can represent unity. Let's invite our hands, hearts and minds into a circle of play and see what happens!

We will experiment with patterns and colors while focusing on the process of creating Zentangle Inspired Art. No experience is necessary; just a willingness to experiment and play. During this 90-minute session, Elizabeth will lead us in the creation of our own works of art.

About the materials: Participants must gather their own materials. Suggested materials include: cardstock, ruler or some straight-edge, cup or small dinner plate, a coin or jar lid (for drawing circles of various sizes), thin-tip black marker and thin-tip colored markers or colored pencils.

About our facilitator: Elizabeth Vander Kamp is an artist-in-residence with the UAB Institute for Arts in Medicine (AIM). She offers workshops in Zentangle and creative writing. She also works bedside telling stories ,which offers patients the opportunity to laugh and talk, to overcome pain and fear, to awaken their imaginations, and to revel in the possibility of happy endings. You can learn more about Elizabeth and her work on her website: http://www.summerreddesigns.org. She is also the Co-founder of the 501c3, The Listening Project, whose mission is creating environments where people learn to listen better together.
