Event description

Description

In this STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) focused, hands-on after school program, participants will build a Spherebot, an egg-drawing robot.

The first half of the program will focus on learning about the robot's components, learning to solder, and assembling and coding the robot. Participants will also learn about 3D printing and laser cutting (tools used for Spherebot parts). The second half of the program will focus on the open source design tool Inkscape (similar to Adobe Illustrator). Participants will be able to create designs in Inkscape that they can then export to their Spherebot to draw on their eggs using the Spherebot’s robotic arm.

Participants should bring their own laptop if possible. We have five laptops that can be rented for those that don't have laptops ($25 + $1.25 GST = $26.25 laptop rental fee to use during the after school program). Recommended for Grades 6 and 7. Maximum 10 participants. No experience is necessary and it will appeal to both those interested in art and design as well as those interested in robotics.

Duration: April 7 to June 23 (no class April 14, May 19 and June 16)

Program cost: $157.50 + $7.87 GST = $165.37 total.

Note: For participants who want to keep their Spherebot, the additional cost is $45 + $2.25 GST = $47.25 (half of our usual retail price of $90 + GST). The total for the program plus the Spherebot including GST is: $212.62.
