Event description

Description

Revitalize your photography while exploring your relationship to your subject, your camera and yourself. Through photo exercises, assignments and daily field trips participants will learn to deepen their visual awareness and self expression while clarifying their approach, making their image making both more personal and more meaningful.

This workshop provides a unique opportunity to rethink our expectations of what it means to ‘see’. We will work on cultivating simplicity and making more powerful photographs, supporting the notion that a photograph is not ‘taken’ but made. We become better photographers by becoming more in touch with our inner selves and then use that awareness to deepen our connection with our subject, whether it’s a person, place, or thing.

This is a challenging invitation to redefine not only what is personally suitable subject matter but your whole approach to photography. Inspiration will be sparked by a balance or conversation, meditation, readings, poetry, or whatever means necessary. Bring your camera and plenty of film or extra memory cards because most of the day you will be working on photographic exercises and assignments to facilitate both internal and external experience and growth.

This is the perfect workshop if you are looking to take your photography to a deeper more personal level or if you want to try an abbreviated version of Doug’s popular week long seminar on “Zen and the Art of Photography’.

Morning and afternoon snacks and lunch provided Saturday and Sunday, beverages available all day.

Transportation and lodging not included but suggestions and information will be provided at time of registration.

Workshop limited to 12 participants

Registration Fee: This covers the cost for a workshop. There are NO additional Administration Fees, Studio, Materials or Model Fees. It’s all included.

Attendees are responsible for transportation and lodging unless notified.

Cancellations: To cancel a workshop registration and receive a refund, notify us at least 30 days before the start date of your workshop. If we are given the required 30 days notice, we will refund your payments less the cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 30 days of the start of the workshop. It is our policy to send documentation of the refund for your records.

Transfers: You may transfer from one workshop to another or from one housing option to another, space permitting. To do so, please notify us at least 30 days before the start of your workshop or housing reservation and pay a $25 transfer fee. Registrations are not transferable to another person.

Waiting Lists: When a workshop fills, we start a waiting list. There is no charge to be on the waiting list. If space becomes available, we contact the first person on the list. That person then has 48 hours to register before we move on to the next person. If a space becomes available within 30 days of the start of a workshop, the registrar may contact all those on the waiting list and the space will be given to the first person to register.

If The SE Center Cancels a Workshop: Please register early! Registration is ongoing, on a space-available basis. Students who wait to register may not be able to secure a spot in their preferred workshop. Some workshops may fill up, while others may be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Occasionally, The SE Center must cancel a workshop due to low enrollment, faculty illness or other unforeseen circumstances. We will notify you if a workshop for which you have registered has been cancelled. Notification of cancellation will normally occur at least one month prior to the beginning of the workshop but, in rare cases, it may be less. You may then enroll in another workshop (based on availability) or receive a full refund of tuition. The SE Center is not responsible for losses incurred due for lodging, travel or other arrangements.
