START YOUR WEEK WITH AN EVENING OF ZEN AND MUSIC
Where is the Entry to Zen through music?
Join us for an evening of fusho and music; discover the ancient keys to Samadhi.
On September 24 - 25, 2018 in Little Tokyo, the Huntington Library (not open to public) and the Shakespeare Club of Pasadena, Zen Master Jitsudo Tsuha unlocks an ancient practice of entering Zen through music and sound, used notably by the Rinzai Zen Fuke group who entered Samadhi playing shakuhachi. The evenings feature demonstrations on entering Zen through resonance with live music performance and selected recordings of comparative and contrasting genres. Attendees will also learn the basics of Zen meditation and Samadhi.
Jitsudo Tsuha is an 86th Generation Zen Master of Rinzai Zen, a Kyudo Shihan 7th dan, Okyo specialist, music teacher, and a Teacher of the Year. After teaching in Honolulu for over 30 years, Tsuha Roshi now travels and brings extraordinary methods for Zen in the modern world.
On Zen and Music, Jitsudo Tsuha:
"Looking at music from the perspective of Zen offers insight for all who are connected in some way with music in their lives. Ranging from reviewing its basic physical nature to listening, and performing, music provides a powerful and effective means of understanding and realizing our human being that is essential to these times. The resonance we create influences stability and clarity. Musicians, teachers, students, and music lovers especially will realize a unique view through the world of music and sound."
