Clean Up -
This class is a clinic focused on fine-tuning technique. Students can expect personal feedback in determining specific problem areas and in developing approaches to
Intentional Fusion -
This workshop is about taking fundamental belly dance movements and finding new ways to use them. The goal is to create new movement pathways that incorporate elements and philosophies of contemporary dance, but that are FIRMLY rooted in belly dance. As we move through our belly dance vocabulary, will explore the head/tail connection, the power of weight shifting, suspension and release, and will begin integrating all six limbs as we learn different ways to use foundational isolations. We will also explore the concept of intentional fusion, examine the efficacy of certain approaches, and discuss the importance of locating choices in their cultural, kinestetic, and historical context. Comfort with basic belly dance movements is highly recommended.
In this class students will be exploring movement creation. The class will begin with a discussion of ways to approach choreography that considers the big picture, the piece as a whole, as the primary focus. Then, through a variety of creative movement exercises, students will work together to create sections of a contemporary fusion choreography. From this workshop students can expect to gain both a greater understanding of ways to write an effective and dynamic piece, engaging from start to finish; and, an introduction to a variety of exercise they can use to infuse their existing dance vocabulary with contemporary elements.
Tribal Fusion Drills -
This is a good, ole' fasioned, sweaty drills class focusing on quintessential Tribal Fusion movements and combos. We start slow, learning the proper technique, and then pick up the pace to get as much dancing in as possible. As we move, students can expect a discussion of proper technique and muscle articulation, and movments will be be rooted in their historical context when possible. The goal is to have fun, to drill, and to get a birds-eye-view of the style that is commercially referred to as Tribal Fusion.
