Event description

Description

This is a fundraiser for both Zariki School in the village of Mwaburgu on the shore of Lake Victoria in Tanzania and the Fortune Kids and Education Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania.

The goal of this fundraiser is to raise $5,000 to build a well for the Zariki School, because the school currently has no running water. If we surpass our goal, additional needs at the school will be supported, such as a school bus (students come from up to a 30 minute drive away), the building of a covered kitchen (currently all meals are cooked outside without an overhead structure in the heat and the rain), and solar panels to provide electricity in the classroom. Donations are tax deductable.

Silent Auction - if you have items or services to donate for the auction, please contact Laura Honda at hondafamily1@comcast.net or 415-233-1084 by Sunday, April 21.

Classroom Dedication Trip 2018 Photo Slideshow - Come to hear all about the classroom that was built in Alan Honda's memory in 2017. We will have slides showing and a poster of photos to see from the classroom dedication trip in 2018.

Tanzania Trip 2020 - Come hear about the trip that is being planned for June 2020 to Tanzania to volunteer at Zariki School and go on Safari. Wendy Dreskin is also planning a trip in February 2020 when the migratory birds are still in Tanzania and the wildebeests are calving. Maybe you'll want to join one of these adventures!

Bring items to donate to Zariki School: suitcases, books, school supplies (pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, paper, crayons, etc.), sewing supplies (sewing machines, fabric, thred, needles, buttons, etc.) .

Raffle tickets will be available to win a beautiful nature quilt made by Laura's class last year at Manor School and quilted by Pat McEntee, Joan Funke, Terry Giancaspro and Valerie Graff. We will pull the winning ticket on May 5, so it will be the last chance to buy tickets to win this very special quilt! The proceeds from the quilt will be donated to help wildlife in Africa.

Bring your kids! Frank Gonzalez, former Artist in Residence of Fairfax, will be on hand to make animal puppets out of recycled materials!

We hope to see you at the fundraiser, please bring your friends! If you have any questions please contact Laura Honda. Thank you!
