20th Anniversary Holiday Home Tour Fundraiser
Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels (YMOW) invites you to support the upcoming 20th Annual Holiday Home Tour. Guests will enjoy a strolling dinner from some of the finest area restaurants, while viewing the festive holiday decorations of five historic homes. Guests will wrap up their evening with an afterglow dessert reception at the iconic Hutchinson Mansion.
This event will ignite the holiday spirit while you support YMOW mission of feeding the homebound seniors of Eastern Washtenaw County.
Date: December 3, 2016
Home Tours: 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Afterglow Dessert Reception: Hutchinson Mansion from 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
The Goal: raise $40,000 which will provide 20,000 meals. The money we raise from the Holiday Home Tour / Taste of Ypsilanti will be used to help YMOW to resume our Saturday meal delivery service. You may ask why providing an extra day of service is so important. Here is why… we need You!
We have heard the need from clients as well as people calling in for meal assistance: “What, you don’t deliver on Saturday. What am I going to eat over the weekend?”
Your ticket purchase or event sponsorship support for the Holiday Home Tour will give you the opportunity to assist YMOW in bringing back the Saturday meal delivery service so No Senior goes hungry on the weekend.
Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels Mission
Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels is a non-profit with the specific purpose of delivering prepared meals to the homebound elderly, disabled, and ill residents in Eastern Washtenaw County in the City and Township of Ypsilanti, Whitmore Lake, South Lyon, Augusta Township, Superior Township, Pittsfield Township, Salem Township, and York Township. We realize that many people, especially the infirm, the ill, and the disabled, take comfort in remaining in their own homes, but are unable to shop or cook for themselves. The meals and the personal contact we provide help people care for themselves in their homes.
Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels has been operating as a home-delivered meal provider for 42 years. Our clients, independent of age or economic position, are medically certified as homebound. Our average elderly client is 87 years old and most likely a woman who is living on less than $900/month. Multiple medical conditions, physical and/or cognitive, severely limit their ability to care for themselves. 97% of the people we serve live alone and have limited, to non-existent, family or community support networks.
