YouthREX - NOISE Youth Researcher Program

BECOME A YOUTH RESEARCHER!
Are you a young person in grade 9 – 12? Do you want to make positive change in your community while learning about the power of research and evaluation? Join the NOISE@YouthREX, Northwestern Hub program from September 21 – December 12, 2016!
INTERESTED YOUTH are invited to learn from the YouthREX Northwestern Hub team, Lakehead University Social Work students and special guests through 14-week of engaging, participatory programming that will energize and support their civic engagement and emotional wellbeing.
**Bus tickets, an honoraria of $20 per class, and a healthy meal will be provided! Students are also able to claim these hours towards their 40 required volutneer hours to graduate **
Through NOISE, youth participants will have the opportunity to imagine new possibilities for themselves and their community.
THE MAIN GOAL of NOISE is to build the research and evaluation capacity of youth in Ontario communities so they can participate in asking and answering questions about issues of importance to their community, as well as participate in the evaluation of youth programs offered by grassroots youth organizations across Ontario.
WHAT WILL PARTICIPANTS DO AT NOISE?
Leadership and communications skills will be used and enhanced, while critical thinking and collaborative teamwork is fostered. Special features include working with art and media equipment, a NOISE showcase and a final celebration/graduation event.
Learn about (and do!) community-based research! Share your thoughts and ideas about issues you care about and transform them into action! Make positive change in your community, while doing exciting activities and networking Improve critical thinking skills through innovative and participatory activities
PROGRAM STRUCTURE & DATES NOISE takes place every Tuesday from 4:30-7:30pm starting September 21, 2016 until December 14, 2016. This includes 12 sessions including a final graduation ceremony.
