Youth Skills Fare
Event Information
About this Event
On September 11, 2020, FCS team met with Giving Tuesday volunteers for updates and discussion on Giving Tuesday Tanzania 2020 that is to be celebrated on December 01, 2020, worldwide. Since the Giving Tuesday fundraising initiative on PPE was held in May for the Medical Association of Tanzania (MAT) during COVID 19 outbreak, there was a recommendation to organize a skills fair as many youths have been impacted by COVID 19 and are not able to secure jobs.
The volunteers took the initiative to seek more information from the youth on the areas they would like to be addressed. Volunteers recommended teaming up with the student’s leadership at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) to secure a venue and organizing young people who will benefit from the skills fair.
Learning and skills needs/areas outlined by youths for the skills fair are:
• How to be competitive in the job market,
• How organizations and companies work,
• How to create value in the organization,
• Work ethics,
• CV writing and Cover Letter, and
• How to join an organization or company as an intern or volunteer.
The skills fair will be held on Wednesday, December 09, 2020, in order to accommodate more youths and intended students to participate. The fair will first hold a presentation and discussion session on the outlined areas above. Then youths will get an opportunity to visit booths for more information and learning. The booths will include the NGO sector; the Private sector; Youth-led organizations and companies; and the Philanthropy sector.
