Event description

Description

Having at least one trusting relationship with a supportive adult is key to the long term success of all young people. Youth workers can be that person temporarily, however to thrive young people need consistent, permanent relationships with people in their own communities. But we often find that relationships between the young people we serve and their families are strained and may not always feel helpful. In this workshop, we will discuss and practice tools and skills to help young people identify and build these strong relationships.

We start with the idea that young people and their significant adult may have totally different perceptions of the same facts, and that all of those perceptions can be true at the same time. We will introduce tools to help young people, the people working with them, and their families identify their own values as well as how those values can interact or conflict with one another. We will also practice boundary setting in a variety of scenarios.

This training is from 9:00 A.M to 12.00 P.M on Wednesday July 31st at Renton Technical College ANNEX (3407 NE 2nd St, Renton, WA 98056)

This workshop is highly interactive and encourages participants to come prepared with questions, examples, and your own ideas for how to do family engagement work in your own youth serving role.
