Event description
The emotional well-being of Wake County youth is a community defined priority, as we work to eradicate bullying and youth suicide.

About this Event

Similar to ‘First Aid’ and CPR, “Youth Mental Health First Aid” teaches individuals how to help those experiencing mental health challenges or crises. This course teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing issues with mental health or challenges with addictions. For more information on Mental Health First Aid, visit www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org.

This training will be led by Ruby Brown-Herring. Ruby is the President of Herring Training and Consulting, LLC. They provide training and technical assistance to support organizations in developing implementation and sustainability plans for embedding Mental Health First Aid into their organizations to address mental health needs while creating caring communities for individuals living with mental illness. In addition, she serves as a member of the National Trainers Corps for the National Council for Behavioral Health, where she trains MHFA instructors across the US. Most importantly, she is the mother of twin girls - one with major depression and anxiety and one with ADHD and anxiety and is passionate about reducing the stigma around mental illness, particularly in the education system.

Training will begin promptly at 8:30am, so please plan accordingly. We will be providing a light continental breakfast and lunch (sandwiches and salads). Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.

The training and related materials are provided at no cost to participants; we do welcome donations, so we can continue to provide this training and others at no cost to our community: http://www.youth-thrive.org/donate/ (if you do not live or work in Wake County we ask you to make a $15 donation to cover the cost of you food, as our funding is specific to Wake County).
