Description

You can help make a difference in a youth's life by helping them get access to Mental Health services when they need them!

Just like giving someone CPR when they are experiencing a physical health problem, you can learn how to respond to a youth who may be suffering from a mental health crisis.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people.

The course includes information on:

  • common mental health challenges for youth,
  • typical adolescent development
  • 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

Topics covered include:

  • anxiety,
  • depression,
  • substance use,
  • disorders in which psychosis may occur,
  • disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD),
  • and eating disorders.

You can learn more about Mental Health First Aid here.

This training is being offered FREE to the Robertson County, TN community under a federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Snacks, drinks, and all materials will be provided free of charge.

Please note: Registration is first come, first served, and a maximum of 30 participants per training will be registered. Minimum class size is 10. If fewer than 10 participants register, you will receive an email inviting you to attend a different class later in the year. Classes will be offered twice a month, each month through Sept 2018.

Special additonal training sessions can be organized for groups of 10 or more. Please contact Rebecca Macfarlane at rebecca.macfarlane@fcsnashville.org for more information.
