Event description

Description

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to assist school staff, teachers, parents, youth leaders, coaches and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is in crisis, or is experiencing a mental health and/or addiction challenge. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an important skill for youth sports coaches, who regularly interact with young people and hold positions of extreme trust.

This course will not make the adult care-taker an expert in mental health or emotional issues, but will provide enough knowledge to recognize "red flags" and assist the youth find professional help. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, suicide, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

This program is essential for modern educators and coaches.
