Event description

Description

Sometimes providing first aid isn't applying a bandage, administering CPR, or even calling 911. Sometimes, it's just noticing the signs and knowing what to do.

Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an eight-hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, emphasizes the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge.

Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.

Please plan on arriving at 8:45 a.m., as we will be starting promptly at 9 a.m. If you are not able to commit to the full eight hours, please consider attending a training on a different date. This is a full 8-hour training. I will not be able to certify you if you come late or leave early. There will be a 30-minute lunch break. Coffee/tea will be provided. A refrigerator and a microwave are available for you to use. Please bring a refillable water bottle. Parking is free and in the adjacent lot to the training building, look for the sign "Office of Staff Development."
