Youth Mental Health First Aid
Mon, Apr 24, 2017, 12:00 PM – Tue, Apr 25, 2017, 4:30 PM CDT
Youth Mental Health First Aid Part 1 will be held on April 24 and Part 2 on April 25. Both days will be from 12pm-4:30pm. Participants must attend both days to become certified Youth Mental Health First Aiders.
What is Youth Mental Health First Aid?
Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8 hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
What if I can only attend one day?
The 8-hour course has been broken into two days. Visit https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org/cs/take-a-course/find-a-course/ to find a course that better fits your availability.
What is the cost?
Nationally this course is valued at $170, but because of generous sponsorship by the Missouri Department of Mental Health: Division of Behavioral Health you have the opportunity to attend at no cost.
Who should attend?
Anyone 18 or older can take Youth Mental Health First Aid, but it is recommended for those who regularly have contact with young people ages 12-18 - teachers, coaches, social workers, faith leaders and other caring citizens.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
You may contact Laura Powell at Lpowell@compasshn.org or 573-301-0772.
