Description

This is a 2-day training. Mark your calendars for Jan 20th AND Jan 27th 9am-1pm.

Lifeways Community Mental Health will be coming to City of Zion to provide training in Youth Mental Health First Aid. Youth Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that introduces you to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents. It focuses on adolescents ages 12-18 years of age and is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, neighbors, and other caring citizens how to help individuals who are experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. This 2-day training helps to build understanding of the importance of early intervention and teaches you how to help a young person experiencing a crisis or challenge.

Mental Health First Aid Teaches You:

- Potential warning signs and risk factors for addictions and mental illness (depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, and disorders in which psychosis may occur)

- Impact of mental and substance use disorder and common mental health challenges for adults and youth, and typical adolescent development

- 5-step action plan (ALGEE) to assess a situation and provide help

- Local community resources and where to turn for help

These 8-hour courses prepare members of the public to provide Mental Health First Aid to those in need. Please note, attendance is required at both 4-hour sessions in order to receive training completion certificate.
