Event description

Description

Are you concerned about the amount of time that your child spends playing video games (on or off-line)? Are you unsure how to differentiate between what is moderate or excessive play? Do you feel that gaming takes precedence over your child's other interests or activities? Have you noticed any signs that your child's gaming activities have impacted his or her personal, family, social, educational, occupational (for older teens) or other important areas of functioning? Please know that you are not alone and you are right to be concerned. Studies have demonstrated links between gaming "addiction,"and other health concerns such as depression, reduced school achievement, problem gambling, and substance abuse disorders. Fortunately, we have information and resources that can help.

Learn more at our "Youth, Gaming, and Problem Gambling" Information Night for Parents and Guardians on October 29th at the Mahopac Falls Elementary School from 7:00-8:30pm. The Mahopac Central School District is partnering with the Prevention Council of Putnam and the Mid-Hudson Problem Gambling Resource Center to share important information that you can use to help encourage healthy limits with gaming, identify warning signs of "problem" gaming and video game "addiction," as well as resources for getting help in our community for children, teens, and families. Please help spread the word about this important evening and please feel free to contact our event organizer, Valarie Nierman, with questions at any time. We look forward to seeing you!
