This September, world leaders will gather at the United Nations in NYC to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the global agenda to guide development priorities for the next 15 years. The adoption of the SDGs provides a wonderful opportunity to focus attention, bolster awareness, and mobilize action towards sustainable development solutions. Young people around the world have played an unprecedented role in developing the post-2015 agenda, and their participation in the coming years will be key to realizing a sustainable future.
This year the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) launched its youth division (SDSN-Y) with the mission of “Empowering youth globally to create sustainable solutions.” SDSN-Y encourages young people to prioritize the SDGs through campaigns, educations programs, policy dialogues, research projects, and solutions initiatives. This past month, SDSN-Y launched its global #KnowYourGoals campaign to support youth in informing their local communities about the relevance and importance of the SDGs.
SDSN-Y is excited to invite you to "Youth for SDGs" to celebrate the role of youth in shaping the post-2015 agenda and to examine means of effective participation in the implementation phase. At the event, SDSN-Y will highlight activities from its #KnowYourGoals campaign, examine the role of youth in implementing the SDGs, and identify opportunities for collaboration in a shared platform for youth engagement. A world premiere film screening that provides an introduction to the SDGs will also be shared in the end.
Keynotes speakers include Ahmad Alhendawi, United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth; Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the SDSN and the Earth Institute; Noëlla Richard, Youth Policy Specialist at UN Development Programme (UNDP); and Siamak Sam Loni, Global Coordinator of SDSN Youth.
