Youth Empowerment Summit

Thursday, May 16, 2019

Registration and Networking begins at 8:15

Audience:  Grades 7-12: Middle and High School Students

Presenter:  Calvin Terrell, Presenter, Social Centric Training and Consulting

The Youth Empowerment Summit is designed to raise awareness about diversity and youth leadership. Students will have the opportunity to work with other youth advisory council members from across the state to discuss challenges in their schools and communities, as well as develop ideas to solve those challenges. This year, we will also have a half-hour presentation from the CT Secondary Transition Community of Practice's Youth Advisory Board about life after high school and the importance of self-advocacy.

We are very excited to share that last year's keynote speaker, Calvin Terrell, is coming back! Calvin has mastered the art of effective diversity training, helping hundreds of schools and organizations nationwide to measurably decrease violence, hate speech, and prejudice. For over a decade, his impact on his listeners has been profound, especially through his "Chicken Soup for the Soul" story. Poetic and candid, Calvin opens his spirit and that of his listeners as he disarms the powers of intolerance and injustice. His efforts to empower students are unparalleled, and his activism has been given multiple awards from educational, religious, and civic organizations.

Some feedback from students after working with Calvin: "One of the best speakers I have ever heard in my life"; "honest and real, he made me change and want to be a better person"; "he made me want to be a warrior for peace."
