About this event
Check out our FEATURED film, Learning About Invasive Species at the Malden River! This film takes us on a journey as the youth discover the Malden River and learn to identify and remove invasive plants. They even roll up their sleeves and do some digging alongside Landscape Architect Casey-Lee Bastien! Planning specialist Kate Jenkins-Sullivan and conservation specialist Tom Philbin also make an appearance and lend their expertise on the subject.
Experience 30 Second Docs, a series of videos by our Mayor’s Youth Employment Program Interns! Each youth created their own short film independently, choosing topics or issues they are passionate about.
This Invasive Species Project was done in partnership with Urban Media Arts, Mystic River Watershed Association, and Friends of the Malden River. It was funded and made possible by a science grant from Malden Cultural Council. The youth involved in this project are UMA’s Malden Catholic Interns and Mayor’s Youth Employment Interns, as well as the Malden Youth Community Garden Project (check them out on instagram too, @maldenycgp).
Special thanks to Karen Buck, Natalia Bayona, Ashley Freeman, Theresa Nguyen, Taylor Lee, Frederika Noel, Yume Menghe Xu, and Masio for helping to coordinate and/or facilitate.:)
The short films will be followed by a Q+A with the young filmmakers and a discussion around environment, activism and media. Save the date for this virtual screening on January 28th at 3pm.
Come with your own thoughts and ideas! Get involved with UMA and our Environment and Media campaign!
