Event description

Description

< 3 ETHICS CEUs for Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors >

Many clinicians do not realize how frequently they are working with survivors of sexual trauma. Although trauma-informed workshops abound, sexual trauma is often not addressed in depth. And what you don’t know can hurt you (and your clients). Experiences of sexual violence and harassment are so widespread, clinicians have an ethical duty to understand the implications of survivorship for their clients.

This session, taught by clinicians with extensive experience in both sexual trauma prevention and counseling, will address:

  • Neurobiological impact of trauma, and why it matters

  • Why sexual trauma is commonly missed by professionals

  • How to screen for survivors of sexual violence

  • Tips for supporting survivors, especially when current events serve as a trigger

  • How our own misunderstandings of and myths about sexual violence can lead to inadvertently providing poor care, and ethical missteps

  • How to determine when referral is appropriate vs potentially damaging to the healing process

  • Resources for clients and professionals

…and more.
