Event description
Learn the impacts the changing climate is having on coffee growing and the impacts coffee growing can have on climate change.

About this Event

What if your beloved (necessary?!) morning coffee could contribute to healthier communities and reduce climate change? Like every other agricultural product, coffee is being impacted by accelerating climate change. Your choices about what coffee to drink could make a big difference, both to the farmers and to the planet. Andy Gaertner works with Farmer to Farmer coffee to coordinate trips to visit farmers in Honduras and negotiate each year's coffee shipment. As a farmer and teacher, he has been thinking about and noticing the effects of climate change for many years. Andy will show slides and talk us through the impacts the changing climate is having on coffee growing and the impacts coffee growing can have on our changing climate. You will leave with a greater appreciation for coffee farmers and a greater understanding of how our choices can lead to a healthier, more equitable, planet.

(Farm Table purchases all of its high-quality coffee from Farmer to Farmer coffee.)

Andy Gaertner is a farmer and teacher at the Lake Country Land School in Connorsville, Wisconsin. Andy was in Honduras with the Peace Corps in the 1990's and has continued to work with the same farmers since that time. He has deep friendships in Honduras, is fluent in Spanish, and leads Farmer to Farmer's work with the farmers there.
