Event description

Description

The people you need to work with your nonprofit – donors, people of influence, volunteers, etc. – won’t join you because of your creative logo or the poetry of your mission statement. Period. And yet, you and your board really believe you should spend thousands of dollars and dozens of hours discussing designs, color palettes, typefaces, usage (logo), and mushy, ambiguous, safe language that serve little purpose (mission).

Instead, this workshop zeroes in on how you and I brand everything from restaurants to doctors to Sears. Then we’ll apply five characteristics of meaningful branding to…yes, your nonprofit.

Audience participation? A must!

Learning objectives: Participants will walk away from this session with:

  • A heightened sense of how their nonprofits might look to their key constituencies
  • Real tools for improving their “authentic” brands

Who should attend: Any nonprofit staff, board member, or volunteer. Organizations have frequently found authentic branding to be a kickoff to bigger questions and strategic planning. This workshop is a great introduction to updating your organization’s mindset on brand.

About the presenter: Rick Schwartz, StraightTalk

Rick has been a journalist, a social activist, co-director of the Massachusetts Senate human services committee, a statewide arts staffer, a foundation vice president, a consultant to nonprofits and foundations (still is), and a father (also still serving as, but they're a lot older). All of his work, diverse though it may seem, shares a strong core: helping dedicated people be more successful in building a better world.
