Event description

Description

You have a vision for your woodland or forest property. It may be as simple as keeping the woodland in the family, or you may have some other goals on how you want your land to be used by future generations.

Regardless of your goals, communication with family members who care as much about the land as you do is the best starting point. Having a shared family vision for your property will help guide your decision about the legal tools used to pass the land on to the next generation.

This 6-hour workshop will help you begin a conversation about the future of your families’ woodland. You will also learn about what you can do to share your land ethic with the next generation.

You will participate in exercises designed to stimulate discussion and be given resources that will help you plan a successful transfer.

Allison Eklund, an attorney, cabin owner and graduate of the Woodland Advisor Program, will discuss wills, trusts, and limited liability companies and how each of these can be used to help you to pass your land on.

In addition, information about conservation easements from the Minnesota Land Trust will be presented

It is recommended that you bring any and all members of your family who have an interest in this topic. However, space is limited and early registration is suggested.

The goal will be for your family to leave the workshop with a clearly articulated plan for who will own your land and how it will be used.

Cost is $15/person, which covers morning refreshments, handouts, and lunch.
