The Master of International Management forum & social networking event

 PANELIST BIOS

CLIFF ALLEN

Academic Director, Master of International Management Program

Cliff Allen holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degree in Economics from San Jose State University. He is currently an ABD doctoral candidate in Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University.

Allen was most recently the Senior VP of Product Line Management and Operations at General Dynamics: Itronix, based in Spokane, Washington. Itronix is a world leader in the design and manufacture of rugged wireless computing solutions for mobile workers. At Itronix, Allen oversaw the Product Marketing, Design R&D, Manufacturing and Supply Chain throughout Taiwan, China, and the U.S.

Prior to Itronix, he was the Vice President of Manufacturing for 3Com Corporation. He led the Operations of Palm Organizer Products and the Mobile Communications Division.


MARIO SCHMIT

Trade Lane Manager, DHL Global Forwarding (MIM’08)

Mario Schmit, originally from Belgium, discovered the MIM program at a fair in Shanghai, China. He was attracted to the program because of the focus on Asia and the unique curriculum. He found that the diverse student body and community engagement opportunities set the MIM program apart. Now Schmit calls Portland home. He promotes DHL US throughout Western European markets. Schmit travels to Europe several times a year and supports local business opportunities abroad.


JACK CHIU

Project Management, LG International (MIM’09)

Jack Chiu applied to the MIM program as he transitioned to a new career. He wanted to leverage his global family-run business background as he entered a new side of international business. Chiu changed his career focus from working production side for a manufacturing firm to managing the supply chain of a global organization.  

Chiu credits the MIM program for the time management skills and business knowledge that he utilizes in his current position at LG International. His favorite responsibility is working with an outsourcing team in Wuxi, China, to find sourcing solutions for US customers.


SHELBY ANDERSON

Current MIM (PT) student at Portland State University (MIM’10)

Shelby Anderson is specializing in global marketing and in the Japanese language. She takes evening and weekend classes while working full-time at Oregon Health & Science University. Upon completing the MIM program, she aspires to join the marketing department of a global firm and travel abroad. Anderson hopes to work with customers and employees of diverse cultural backgrounds. In her spare time, Anderson loves to travel. After graduation she will celebrate by taking a European vacation planned after graduation.


JAMES BEGG

Current MIM (FT) student at Portland State University (MIM’10)

James Begg was born in Melbourne, Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Marketing from the University of Tasmania. Begg has traveled throughout Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and the USA.

He worked in Melbourne for two years in events marketing and management. Begg then moved to New Zealand where he began a career in hotel management. His MIM specializations are Marketing and Sustainability, and Japanese. On the MIM Asia trip, Begg learned a lot about the Asian business environment, and created a strong bond with the rest of the cohort. Currently, he is working on the MIM exit project with Nike’s emerging markets, measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of Nike’s supply chain. He also interns at Portland Roasting Coffee, where he is working on a case study with PSU and Burgerville. He also works for Guayaki in marketing and promotions.
