Event description
Come explore, create, collaborate, wonder, and grow your writing skills this summer along with other young people from ages 9-14.

About this event

This online summer writing immersion for ages 9-14 is a chance for young writers to connect, sharpen their skills, explore, and create across genres. We will explore narrative writing, personal essays, and poetry. If your child is craving more time for writing, could benefit from some extra support after a challenging year of school during the pandemic, and enjoys creating with peers, join us for this month-long writing practice. We’ll meet for a lesson, exploration, and write-in each Monday (sessions will be recorded in case your child can’t make a particular date), and there will be optional office hours / peer work time each Friday, all culminating in a celebration of their work with families on Friday, August 6th.

Ages: 9-14

Dates: Monday, July 5th - Friday, August 6th

Times: Lesson and write-in each Monday, 3:30-5:00 pm MT (5:30-7:00 pm ET); optional teacher check-in and peer work each Friday, 3:30-4:30 pm MT (5:30-6:30 pm ET)

Cost: $265 per writer*

*what is most important to me is that any young people who want to get the chance to write this summer! Please reach out to me at thomas.emmaj@gmail.com if you have any questions or this is financially out of reach for you and we can work together.

Organizer Emma Thomas

Organizer of Young Writers Summer Immersion

Emma has taught writing to elementary and middle school students for over 10 years. As a 5th grade classroom teacher, she is passionate about empowering students to find their voice, wonder, imagine possible worlds, and practice mindfulness through writing. She has also worked extensively in peace and conflict transformation and has used storytelling and personal narrative writing with young people as a powerful tool in that work. When she’s not nerding out about teaching writing, she loves to swim, read, and sing!
